Creators have earned over 1 billion (yes that’s a B) dollars on Teachable, which is a platform that allows anyone to share and monetize their knowledge. In my 2 years there, I started our user research function, designed the statements feature bookkeeping millions of dollars worth of transactions, and helped create our first react component-based design system.

A feature that I worked on was Certificates, which allows a school owner to design & issue a certificate of completion to students finishing their course.

I was the sole product designer working on this feature, collaborating with a team of 4 (head of product, front-end dev and QA). One month after launch, we had the following numbers:

• 16% of new schools created at least one certificate
• 21% of the upgrades to Pro plan and above came through the certificate upgrade gate
• Thousands of unique certificates were created

The opportunity

Teachable, as a platform, allows anyone to create, distribute and monetize an online course. One of our most requested features was to allow a school owner to design and issue a certificate to a student upon course completion, as both an indicator of finishing the course and a way to celebrate the accomplishment of completion.
