Modern Treasury is a payment operations platform that allows orgs to move large sums of money and streamline payment processes within a unified operating system.

I was brought on as a Freelance Lead Product Designer and over the course of four months, I worked to improve Modern Treasury’s Payment Order creation flow—an experience that has remained largely unchanged from the initial release of the product.

The problem

The Payment Order flow is the meat and potatoes of the Modern Treasury product. Through this flow, an org is able to send or request money from a counterparty.

However, this is a flow that has not been updated since V1 of the product. Which means that users have the following issues:

• Users consistently have trouble figuring out how to send their first Payment Order, to the point where customer success has a whole playbook to guide new users
• Once users start to get the hang of sending/requesting Payment Order, they learned that anytime they wanted to add or change a counterparty, they had to do so in a separate experience
